Bobby Phills Scholarship Fund-Must be a graduating high school senior from a school in the Mecklenburg county area with a SAT of 1150 or higher. Submit entry form, 400-word essay, current copy of high school transcript, SAT/ACT scores, two letters of reference, explanation of financial need. Must be accepted or enrolled in an accredited institution of higher learning.

Sallie Southall Cotten Scholarship- January 12th Deadline. The following is the judging criteria for the SSCS:Character ,Scholastic record,Demonstration of ambition and leadership,Potential to succeed,Financial need. $6,000 per year for four years, for a total of $24,000. In addition, the state runner-up shall receive a one-time award of $1,500, the second runner-up shall receive a one-time award of $1,500.

Tom Joyner Foundation 2009 Full Ride Scholarship-January 17th Deadline. Full tuition waivers and generous stipends to cover room and board and books.Open to current high school seniors who are US citizens planning to attend a Historically Black College or University (HBCU). Must have GPA at least 3.5 (on 4.0 scale), SAT at least 1300 or ACT 28. Must be accepted to an HBCU by July 1, 2009. Must have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service or extracurricular activities.

General Foundation of Woman’s Clubs (GFWC) Junior Woman’s Club of Charlotte – Sallie Southall Cotton Scholarship-January 20th Deadline. $750 – $1,500; one time (state level winner will receive an additional $24,000) Open to students who are qualified US citizens in the top 25% of their class. Must plan to attend one of our state-supported universities. Judging is based on character, scholastic record, leadership, potential, and financial need. Submit typed application, transcript, recent photograph, completed FAFSA form, 2 typed letters of recommendation, personal letter, and SAT scores.First contact your school scholarship coordinator for information and application materials.
